Hi! Thanks for being here. I hope you feel you belong to this fashion, beauty and lifestyle community, you do!
But as I always intend to help and make our lives easier, here are two super-quick reads that will quickly get you to a good understanding of the subject!
So, go here for a quick read of the “The Importance of Exfoliating in Your Beauty Routine” post
and to find out some brand suggestions (which are certainly worth knowing) for exfoliating your skin, you can click here.
Feet deserve our care and attention, beyond the aesthetic issue, the health of our feet’ skin and the comfort we get by starting this small gesture (at least once a week unless medical advice otherwise) will bring the benefits mentioned above.
As you know, I am concerned about the health and beauty of the skin, but I never disregard the sustainability of our planet (or try to). For this reason, I try to provide alternatives to purchasing products by reducing our footprint or associated negative impacts always possible. This time, I suggest recipes we can make at home quickly and with similar results.
In addition to recipes, which we find on various websites, it also seems important to me that we can associate some ingredients with the effects they produce when we integrate them into our homemade recipes. I must also clarify that, the recipes I use, and which are globally known, before preparing them I spoke to my doctor previously to get her consent, because as you already know I have sensitive skin, with rosacea and, quite reactive, and we must be aware that not all recipes or products are suitable for everyone.
However, these recipes can and should only be used if there are no contraindications to using them. A good way to prevent allergies or irritation from appearing is to first try a homemade exfoliant on a small area of the skin.
NEVER use on skin with wounds or scales or if you have any type of irritation/redness on your skin.
The ingredients we will use to exfoliate are natural, and we can easily find them in our pantry. Thus, these recipes are simple, practical, and easy to prepare, especially because two ingredients are often enough for our purposes.
So first, the ingredients, based on their purpose and then the recipes.
Ingredients that we chose for the purpose of exfoliating the skin:
– Sea salt
– Brown sugar
– Coffee / or coffee grounds
– Corn flour
– Rolled oats
– Pumpkin seeds
– Chia seeds
Ingredients that we chose for the purpose of moisturizing the skin:
– Sweet almond oil
– Honey
– Lavender oil
– Olive oil
– Coconut oil / Coconut milk
– Fat cream
– Multipurpose moisturizing cream
Now let’s prepare the recipes, which can vary, with the principle that you need one ingredient from each of the lists: the list for exfoliating the skin and one or more ingredients from the list for moisturizing the skin.
The most complicated part is already done, which is identifying the ingredients according to their function.
Now, you just need to go to your pantry and choose the ingredients you will use.
DIY Exfoliation Recipes
Homemade Coffee Grounds and Honey Exfoliant
- In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds with 1 teaspoon of honey.
- Mix the two ingredients well.
- When the mixture forms a paste, it is ready to use.
Homemade Oats and Sweet Almond Oil Exfoliant
- In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of rolled oats with 1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil.
- The amount of oil can vary depending on the application area and the desired exfoliation intensity. Add less oil for a stronger exfoliation and more for a gentler one.
- Once the ingredients are well combined, it is ready to use.
Homemade Chia Seeds and Heavy Cream Exfoliant
- In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of chia seeds with 1 tablespoon of heavy cream (any heavy cream you already have at home will do).
- Mix the ingredients thoroughly, and it is ready to use.
Homemade Cornflour with Sea Salt and Coconut Oil Exfoliant
- In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of cornflour with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil.
- Mix well until the two ingredients are fully integrated and the result is a smooth, homogeneous mixture.
- Add 1 tablespoon of sea salt to the mixture for a more intense exfoliation.
The recipes above are just suggestions to kickstart the discovery process you’ll carry out at home, mixing the ingredients according to your preferences and what your pantry offers. You just need to follow the principle of having at least one ingredient from the 1st group (exfoliating action) and another from the 2nd group (moisturizing action).
